A Cage that keeps them caged!! January 2, 2008 M. Hurlbut (Kansas) Finally after many many cages that my hamsters seem to be smarted than I have one that the hamster stayed in. It is harder to clean than others but definatly worth it as I don't have to constantly try to find ways to keep my hamster in. the levels seem to give the hamster plently of room also he moved and played alot. Sometimes he hid out on the bottom level which my 4 year old didn't like because he couldn't see the hamster but otherwise great!
Good..for a hamster cage June 29, 2007 Star_dog (wyoming) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
i like this cage the wheel is nice and not loud. there are a few things i dont like...the food bowls and the sides...the hamsters are always knocking food out of the bowls and the food goes all over the place also the bedding is hard to keep in when you clean it because the sides dont cathc it very well...but it dose do and all right job keeping it in.
Some Pros and Some Cons, but otherwise very satisfied January 10, 2007 small fuzzy mammal (Massachusetts) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have had hamsters for years and always used the same small cage. I decided that my current hamster was miserable in the small cage and upgraded to the 3 level coast cage. My hamster is very happy in his new home, although it did take some work.
-He loves the wheel. It is larger than typical hamster wheels, which is a plus, and it spins pretty quickly for being metal. However, it does squeek. It only took some greasing with vaseline for it to stop squeeking. The wheel does not come out, so it will take extra effort if you want to clean it or a metal saw if you want to completely remove it.
- The ladders are pretty steep and my hamster didn't initially take to them. He was hesitant to go up or down them for what I was assuming to be a fear of falling. This also was an easy fix. I cut paper towel tubes down one side and then used a hole puncher and twisty ties to make a cover or "awning" for each ladder. They were more like tubes afterwards instead of open ladders. He started regularly using the ladders with no hesitation after that.
- It is difficult to get at the hamster when he is at the bottom of the cage without lifting the top of the cage off. The way the second and third floors are oriented, it is impossible to reach through the top to the lowest level. I have learned to deal with this. If I really want him out, then it is worth the trouble of taking the top off or waiting until he goes to the second level. Otherwise, he deserves to be left unharassed when he is on the bottom level.
- The sides of the bottom are pretty high and are good at keeping most of the bedding in the cage. There is some bedding that still gets kicked out, but is much, much less than my other cage.
Granted, there are some problems with the cage, but you should be able to remedy them yourself or just deal with them. My hamster is much happier and healthier now and I do not regret my decision to get this cage in particular.
cosy retreat for your pets November 12, 2006 Watertheplants! (Stafford, VA USA) This is a well contructed cage that is a lightweight option. It has plenty of space for your hampsters or rats (make sure you do not buy this for mice, the bar spacing is too wide) and I like the upward design as a space saver. It is also extremely easy to clean. The bottom tray removes for easy cleaning. The only problem I have encountered is that the wheel is quite squeaky. Overall it is an attractive product with room for play and easy clean-up.
maybe not for full sized rats September 25, 2006 D. J. Dudyk (Eastern Pa.) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
cage construction was great... wheel well done to protect feet...didnt like vertical rungs(neither did the rats) got very small very quickly as the rats grew...... maybe mini rats or mice.
